Frequently Asked Questions
Pictionary is played in teams. One player from a team draws a picture based on a word, while their teammates try to guess the word. The team earns points if they guess correctly within the time limit. No verbal clues or written words are allowed in drawings. Teams take turns drawing and guessing.
Traditional scoring awards 1 point for each correct guess within the time limit. For competitive play, you might award different points based on difficulty: 1 point for easy words, 2 for medium, and 3 for hard. The first team to reach a predetermined score (typically 20-25 points) wins the game.
Traditional Pictionary uses paper and pencils/markers. For a digital alternative, you can use a shared whiteboard app or drawing software. For in-person play, a large flip chart or whiteboard works well for larger groups. Dry-erase boards are convenient as they’re easily erasable between turns.
No letters, numbers, or symbols are allowed in drawings. No verbal clues or gestures. You can’t draw dash marks to indicate the number of letters or words. Only visual representations are permitted. Players can use basic shapes, stick figures, and symbols that aren’t directly related to spelling (like arrows to show direction).
This version doesn’t support custom words, but you can always substitute the generated word with your own if desired. Future versions might include an option to add custom word lists for more personalized gameplay.
