What is this video trimmer?
This video trimmer is a free online tool that cuts a section out of a video file without uploading it anywhere. You pick a start and an end point, and it writes a new video containing only that part. Everything runs inside your browser tab, so the footage never leaves your computer — which matters if you are trimming something private, or simply do not want to wait on an upload.
The important difference from most online video cutters is that the default mode does not re-encode anything. It copies your original compressed frames into a new container. The result is not almost as good as the source; it is bit-for-bit the same footage, just shorter.
How to trim a video

Lossless cutting versus an exact cut
Compressed video is not stored as a series of complete pictures. Only occasional frames — keyframes — are whole; every frame between them is stored as the difference from the frames around it. A cut can only be copied without re-encoding if it begins on a keyframe, because otherwise the first frames have nothing to refer back to.

The tool shows you where the keyframes are as faint vertical lines on the timeline, and tells you exactly how far your start point will move before you commit. In most videos keyframes sit one to three seconds apart, so the snap is small. The end point is never affected.

Frequently asked questions
Does trimming a video reduce its quality?
Not in lossless mode. Your original compressed frames are copied straight into the new file, so the part you keep is identical to the source. Only the Exact cut mode re-encodes, and it is the only mode that can lose any quality.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The trimming happens inside your browser using your own computer. The file is never sent anywhere, which is why it works on a slow connection and why very large files are no slower than small ones.
Why did my start point move slightly?
Lossless cutting can only begin on a keyframe. If your chosen start is not on one, the tool moves back to the keyframe just before it, so no frames are missing from the beginning. The timeline shows where the keyframes are, and the panel tells you the exact shift. Switch to Exact cut if you need the precise frame.
What file formats can I trim?
MP4, MOV and M4V, which covers phone recordings, screen captures and most camera footage. Lossless trimming has to read the file’s internal structure, and those are the containers this tool understands. WebM and AVI are not supported.
How large a video can I trim?
Up to 1 GB. Your browser has to hold the file in memory to read it, so there is a real ceiling that depends on your machine. Above about 300 MB the tool will warn you before starting. If your file is bigger, trim it on a desktop rather than a phone.
Does the trimmed video keep its sound?
Yes. The audio is copied across untouched and stays in sync with the picture. If the source has no audio track, the output will not have one either.
Is there a watermark?
No. There is no watermark, no account, no sign-up and no paid tier. The output is a plain MP4 you can use anywhere.
